A better understanding of the molecular biology of neoplasms has led to a better understanding of the basis of cancer and to the discovery of genes, both oncogenic and tumor suppressor genes, that have opened up the possibility of new personalized treatments in patients. This has given rise to the concepts of “personalized medicine” or, more recently, “precision medicine”.
These treatments are more effective in terms of response rate, progression-free survival, and overall survival, and are often associated with lower toxicity due to their greater specificity.
With the genetic study of the tumor and personalized treatment, we not only improve the results in effectiveness, but also the quality of life of our patients.
