Public laboratory for the diagnosis of genetic diseases
The greatest challenge that the physician treating hereditary diseases faces is the identification of individuals at risk before they have symptoms. The medical community often has difficulty interpreting a genetic result, due to its complexity and the difficulties of these hereditary diseases.
As the field advances, the responsibility of specialized centers to oversee the decisions of analysis, follow-up, treatment and training of professionals within the clinical community becomes more evident.
GenCardio-Diagnostics has been the first public laboratory in Catalonia dedicated to the diagnosis of hereditary cardiovascular diseases. As the diagnostic laboratory of Hospital Trueta, in 2015 it became the reference laboratory in its field, in accordance with the CatSalut 6/2015 instruction.
GenCardio-Diagnostics is the translational commitment of the Center for Cardiovascular Genetics, a research group of the Girona Institute for Biomedical Research (IDIBGI) and the University of Girona (UdG). Our group has many years of clinical and research experience in the field of hereditary heart disease.
The laboratory was dedicated exclusively to the genetic diagnosis of diseases associated with cardiovascular diseases, but thanks to the collaboration of other institutions and professionals, it also offers services in other specialties such as cancer, neurology and thrombophilia.
At GenCardio-Diagnostics we combine the development of high-performance genetic and computer tools, with the support of the clinical professional both in choosing the necessary genetic study and in advising him in patient decision-making.
